ABOUT THE PROJECT
The goal of the CLASSIPAL project is to develop an automated, intelligent AI solution for the quality classification of EPAL pallets. The project is being carried out in cooperation with our industrial partner PALETTEN-SERVICE Hamburg AG.
Currently, the assessment and grading of pallets into different quality categories is performed predominantly manually. This approach not only leads to a bottleneck in pallet throughput during operating hours but is also prone to inconsistent or incorrect classification decisions. Such errors can shorten the life cycle of a pallet and, in some cases, even lead to the premature disposal of pallets that are still usable. The resulting costs are both economic and ecological in nature: the production of every new pallet causes a significant CO₂ footprint.
With CLASSIPAL, we are pursuing the goal of increasing the lifespan and reusability of pallets by making the classification process smarter, more consistent, and more reliable. In this way, the project makes a direct contribution to the reduction of CO₂ emissions and to increasing the operational efficiency of pallet-based processes.
