ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Institute of Logistics Engineering is researching the integration of logistics and building planning models together with Airbus Operations GmbH in the project “prepAir – Sustainable Aircraft Fuselage Industrialization”. At present, logistics and the building are planned separately. This is due to the fact that planning models used in practice only consider logistics or construction separately. However, integrative planning allows the building and logistics structures to be better coordinated. This means that more efficient processes and structures can be achieved when building a new warehouse.

For the planning of logistics real estate, a reference model for the integrated and simultaneous design of building structures and logistics systems is therefore being developed for the first time and tested as part of a software demonstrator. The use of land, building and logistics resources is to be considered holistically in order to optimize the future use, sustainability and investment requirements of the building and its logistics equipment.

The desired reference model supports the planners on the software side during the rough planning phase. The aim is to generate several initial rough planning scenarios with as little input as possible, which differ, for example, in terms of sustainability, automation or investment costs. This enables the user to evaluate various planning options at an early stage and to start detailed planning of one or more scenarios based on the results.
