Among the latter, different probabilistic and kinetic models have been proposed and further extended. So far a benchmarking of the various available screening process models has not been performed. Therefore, a selection of screening process models is reviewed and benchmarked numerically by using detailed discrete element simulations of batch screening processes involving spherical and complex shaped particles in this investigation. Different particle characteristics such as size, shape, as well as overall mass are examined. In addition operational parameters including vibration frequency, stroke angle and amplitude are considered. The comparison is performed based on the stratification ability and parameters like the screening efficiency which are calculated over time. This comparative study will form the basis for the extension ofphenomenological models to represent dynamic processes during batch screening.
