You can determine the soil type using the finger test. The individual soil types differ in their grain size. The smaller the grains, meaning the finer the soil, the better it can be shaped.
Experiment
How do the different soils behave when you add water to them? Start a series of experiments! You can find out how to proceed in our picture gallery.
We also have the Kniffelix experiment instructions for you to print out in German and in English.
You can record your observations in the Kniffelix worksheet:
Task:
Which soil can absorb how much water? How much water seeps through? Share your observations with others in the Community.
