Research Project Topic  – Generative Artificial Intelligence – Opportunities and Risks in the Business Context

Generative AI is an exciting field of artificial intelligence that enables the automatic generation of creative content such as texts, images, and music. Companies are increasingly using this technology to achieve personalized customer communications, more efficient after-sales services, and product optimizations. However, this also brings about challenges related to data protection and ethical considerations that need to be explored.

The research project aims to identify and analyze the opportunities and risks of generative AI in the business context, especially concerning after-sales areas and marketing activities. The results will make a significant contribution to shaping responsible AI applications in companies.

The following work packages can contribute to the successful completion of the project:

  1. Overview of Generative Artificial Intelligence: Research and describe what generative AI is and how it functions compared to other AI approaches.
  2. Applications in Companies: Find examples of companies that use generative AI in their daily operations and analyze the impact on aspects such as their business strategies.
  3. Opportunities and Potentials: Examine the opportunities and potentials that generative AI offers to companies in their daily operations.
  4. Risks and Challenges: Analyze possible risks and challenges associated with the use of generative AI, especially in terms of data protection, bias, and technology dependence.
  5. Best Practices and Ethical Aspects: Explore best practices for the responsible use of generative AI and identify ethical aspects that should be considered during implementation.
  6. Future Outlook: Determine how the use of generative AI in after-sales is likely to evolve in the future and anticipate expected trends.

The Institute of Innovation Marketing as a talent pool

  • General

For 15 years now, every winter and summer term, outstanding students in economics and related fields have been admitted to the “WiWi-Talents” program. The award winners are included in the renowned “WiWi Talent Book”, which is presented to over 500 HR decision-makers of well-known companies in the German-speaking area. This interlinking of science and business benefits not only students, but also companies that can get in touch with highly talented young students.

“WiWi-Talents” are not only characterized by excellent grades, but also convince by well matured future and career planning. In addition, a letter of recommendation from a professor is expected by the jury members.

For the winter term 2019/2020, one of our master’s students – Lukas Nielandt – was selected as a “WiWi talent” on the suggestion of Professor Lüthje. This makes our institute for innovation marketing a proud “WiWi talent pool”.

Visit to the 17th Open and User Innovation Conference (OUI) in Utrecht

  • General

The 17th Open and User Innovation Conference (OUI) took place from 8 to 10 July 2019. The institute for Innovation Marketing was represented there with two lectures on the subject of diffusion of user innovations.

Parts of the University of Utrecht are located in the historic “Domkerk” St. Martin´s Cathedral. It lies directly in front of the Utrecht Cathedral Tower, the highest church tower in the Netherlands. On 23 January 1579, the Treaty on the Union of Utrecht was adopted in the current auditorium, where this year´s OUI was also opened. Thus, the Netherlands was created here.

In the background of the professor and the institute staff a whale sculpture made off 5 tons of plastic waste can be seen. This symbolizes the research of the University of Utrecht in the field of sustainable water management.

Catering was provided in the historic “Pandshof” of the cathedral. The courtyard has existed since 14th century and has hosted many generations of clergymen and scholars. Its centre is decorated with the statue of Hugo Wstinc, also called “the writing monk”. What better place for a scientific conference!

Like the monk, we also return our institute work with many great impressions and inspired by the numerous lectures.
